Chen-chun Xu was born in 1938 in Zhang-Hua County, Taiwan. She is the older sister of renowned tin-art creator Wan-Nang Chen.

Growing up, both Xu and her brother picked up traditional crafts, especially flat embroidery, from their father. Her embroidery skills took a halt when Xu switched over to focus on her husband’s trading business. Years later, Xu and her husband decided to return home and resume the traditional arts and crafts work once again.

“We are very fortunate. Our parents gave both of us skillful hands. My husband is specialized in creating all kinds of lanterns. As for me, I am inspired by all the tin vessels my brother made, which allows me to transform something from the plain type of traditional embroidery into three-dimensional modeling,” said Xu Chen-Chun.
